Dream Spa Medical Gets Ground Breaking Results with PRP Microneedling!

Diana Brouillard - Monday, August 17, 2015

Dream Spa Medical introduced microneedling into the practice in the beginning of June 2015 and in just a short 3 months has done over 20 treatments.  Microneedling with platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is great for Acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, overall facial rejuvenation, dark circles and hair restoration.

The concept of using PRP for wound and soft tissue healing has been around since World War 2 and it makes sense that it is now being widely incorporated in aesthetics.  PRP carries the most nutrient rich part of the blood that is responsible for releasing growth factors that recruit and increase the production of reparative cells.  While it’s been used in orthopedic medicine to increase production of reparative cells in the areas of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints; it is now being used in aesthetics to increase reparative cells in the areas of collagen, elastin and hair follicles.

That’s how we are able to so successfully treat acne scars, reduce wrinkles and grow new hair.  We are just taking the medical concept of drawing the patient’s own blood, spinning it down to get the best, nutrient-rich part of this blood and infusing it into areas that have slowed reproduction or have been damaged.  With age, that means collagen production and thinning hair follicles.  In the case of acne scarring, we are repairing damaged tissue in the skin that was affected by acne deep within the layers of the skin.

If you feel that microneedling might be a good solution to your anti-aging or cosmetic concerns, contact us and schedule a free consultation.  We are currently running a special until the end of August on Microneedling with PRP for an introductory special price of $350 (regular $600).  Take advantage now before the price goes up at the end of the summer!

Acne: What can be done about it? - Canton, MA

Joseph Coupal - Monday, April 13, 2015

Acne. Just that one word brings back bad memories for adults who spent their high school years dealing with breakouts. It is a word that upsets anyone who is currently struggling with acne now. I know. I fought the good fight in my teens and my 20s. I felt like a little kid in the workplace because what adult has acne, anyway? Turns out….lots of adults. I tried everything but it wasn’t until I started seeing an aesthetician that I began to see my acne clear up. I was amazed that facials could be results-oriented and not the fluffy steam facials from my grandmother’s time. Dream Spa Medical offers a variety of treatments designed to target acne breakouts. We treat teens and adults and use a variety of methods such as chemical peels for a professional exfoliation, clay masque facials to detoxify the skin and make extractions easier, high frequency treatments to kill bacteria, and many others.

Our aestheticians focus on improving acneic skin during treatments and we also have amazing products to use at home that are more effective and healing than most products you can get outside of a med-spa setting.

There is never a bad time of year to start treating your acne. If you are anxious about how your skin will look for upcoming weddings, graduations, or family get-togethers, make an appointment with Dream Spa Medical to start seeing your skin in a clear light.

Skincare During Pregnancy

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, May 27, 2014

By: Slone Mathieu

As you may know, pregnancy is a hormonal roller coaster ride. You live in the highs and lows of your emotions, and nowhere is that change more evident than on your face. You're exhausted, exasperated, exhilarated, and it shows!

Some lucky ladies get that glow...and then there's the rest of us. All that hormonal activity can cause a variety of bumps, blotches and itches, but the most frustrating change can be the development of acne. The problem is compounded by the fact that your most effective go-to products are no longer considered safe now that baby's on board.

The good news is that hormones readjust in the second trimester of pregnancy. However, this is only a reprieve. After giving birth the balance changes again and additional flare-ups should be expected. To that end, I would recommend an anti-inflammatory diet to correct the problem from the inside out. In fact, this should be the first line of defense when treating anyone who suffers from acne.

A proper diet can directly interfere with the formation of acne lesions and can prevent irreversible scarring caused by the inflammation. The key to an anti-inflammatory diet is to prevent the rapid rise in blood sugar. Therefore, when addressing acne inflammation it is just as important to be aware of what foods NOT to eat, as well as what foods help. Many are common sense, like sweets and treats, but you might be surprised to find that even mangos, bananas, corn, potatoes and hard cheeses rapidly convert into sugar when they are digested and are considered pro-inflammatory. In other words, acne inducing.

There are endless food options that taste great and fight acne by easing the inflammation. In this case, an apple a day will (really & truly) keep the doctor away. And while you're at it, try some turkey, salmon, shellfish and tofu. Then dig in to all the antioxidant rich options: almonds, berries, flaxseed, dark leafy greens, beans, seeds, olive oil, soy products and yogurt. Combine this with water, vitamin supplements and a gentler sulphur-based topical and you can actually take your acne for a ride!

My Friend Brittany: Before and After Acne Treatment

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, April 08, 2014

By: Mary Kelley

Meet my friend, Brittney. She and I met at aesthetics school. Brittney and I have many things in common, including struggling with acne.

While my acne has been under control for a few years now, Brittney has been looking for the right combination of home care products and treatments. Once I was hired at Dream Spa Medical, I knew that I had the right resources available to help Brittney. We offer chemical peels, facials, laser treatments, and excellent home care products.

Together, Brittney and I are working to clear up her acne. Brittney’s skin is clearing up but she is still developing new lesions and has post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from the lesions that are clearing up. PIH refers to the dark spots left behind after acne.

Once Dream Spa Medical started carrying the VI Peel, I knew I had found a solution that would combat my friend’s existing acne and address her PIH at the same time. The VI Peel is a next generation, medium depth peel. It delivers maximum results with very little discomfort due to an advanced blend of acids and a numbing agent.

I explained the aftercare process to Brittney and went over the homecare treatment plan that comes with each VI Peel. Due to the strength of the peel, Brittney would certainly experience a physical peel for 3-6 days and I wanted to make sure she knew what to do at home.

We checked in every day and after a week the results were nothing short of amazing.

Brittney’s active lesions have cleared up and her pigment has been drastically reduced. We are continuing to work on a treatment plan to make sure that her skin stays healthy and clear.

I am incorporating VI Peels into my clients’ acne treatment plans because of the amazing results that I have seen with Brittney’s skin.

“Hey, PIZZA FACE!!!”

Joseph Coupal - Monday, October 07, 2013

“Hey, PIZZA FACE!!!”

It was the end of a long day in a temp job that I wasn’t thrilled with. I was just out of college and still struggling to find my perfect career. I was temping for a public school system in an administrative office and found myself back at the same school where I attended 7th grade. Oddly, I felt like I was back in the 7th grade all over again.

I’ve struggled with acne since I was in the 6th grade.  I was a shy kid and having a face full of oil and pimples didn’t help matters. After a mortifying conversation with my mother, I went to see a dermatologist who put me on an ever-changing rotation of antibiotics, topical medications, and recommended certain cleansers from the drug store. My skin improved ever so slightly but not enough to say that I saw enough improvement to feel better about my skin. I tried every anti-acne product I could find (and afford on my high school/college budget) and even tried products from infomercials that promised free 30 day trials. Some products worked a little bit and others just made my skin worse.

Nothing worked.

Then, the esthetician who I was seeing for brow waxing suggested that I try a facial. Over time, she and I worked on my skin. She told me that just like getting regular dental checkups, we need to have our skin treated by a professional-especially when someone has problem skin. Also, I had to change my skincare routine at home. My esthetician also told me that we tend to get what we pay for when it comes to products. We don’t have to buy the most expensive products on the market but most products from the drugstores don’t really treat and heal acne in the long term. Over time, we found the right products for my skin. It wasn’t easy, finding the right home routine for skin care is like finding the perfect pair of jeans—you have to try a number of options before finding the right pair.

It did take time but my skin cleared up and has stayed clear for years. Most people are surprised when I tell them that I suffered from serious acne. Not only is my skin clear now, the products that I use help reduce the appearance of previous scarring and hyperpigmentation left over from my battle with acne. I do try new products based on the advice of estheticians and my own knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work.

Now, the only time I have to talk about pizza is when I splurge on a Friday night!

Acne Journey

Bad Habit: Skipping the Gym

Joseph Coupal - Monday, August 19, 2013

Go to the gym for your skin! Exercise increases blood flow to the skin, causing a healthy-looking flush. Both immediately and over time, it has been shown to decrease tension, which can result in healthier skin. Cortisol has many functions in the body. It helps the body use sugar (glucose) and fat for energy metabolism, and it helps the body manage stress. Cortisol levels can be affected by many conditions, such as physical and emotional stress. When you're stressed, cortisol levels rise, and that leads to acne and other skin aggravations.

Facials Vs. DREAM SPA MEDICAL Facials

Joseph Coupal - Monday, July 15, 2013

Before going to Dream Spa Medical and NOT getting the HydraFacial- I would go to a common place that is known for facials (I won’t write the name on here). It was very relaxing and soothing, I would get a nice massage and music would play in the background. However, let’s take a step back for a second and think about why I went there from the start. I would leave there feeling so relaxed but being relaxed doesn't solve the initial problem that I needed help with: My acne. What I learned after a few of these experiences was that the hour of relaxation and Zen, not only did not clear up my acne but made it worse. Once I was at that point, I did not trust facials at all. I was convinced that they only made me break out (Having wasted hundreds of dollars on useless facials that gave me relaxation).

Dream Spa Medical, gives the spa treatment as an ADDITION to the actual procedure. What I learned is that these skilled aestheticians aren’t just doing what they are supposed to do- but more. They care about YOUR skin and what your skin needs in order to fix YOUR problem. They don’t just go through the routines of their job, but do things that will benefit YOU. You will leave feeling relaxed AND helped. The money I am spending on the HydrFacials I receive, IS WORTH IT. I am confidently getting the procedure done, in order to relax and clear up my skin. If it works, and I’m actually being helped money is not wasted. With confidence I strongly believe that if it weren’t for Dream Spa Medical and the amazing HydraFacial, my skin would not look the way it does today. I would be hopeless without this procedure, I trust Dream Spa Medical completely. Thank you !
