What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX has been used therapeutically for over 17 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. Having been approved for use in 75 different countries, it remains the most thoroughly studied botulinum toxin—in addition to being one of the most widely researched medicines—in the world. In 2002, BOTOX Cosmetic was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65.

Now, we’re pleased to be offering BOTOX in Canton MA, Brookline & Foxboro areas, giving you the power to walk back the clock and enjoy impressive facial rejuvenation without any invasive surgery or the downtime that tends to come with it. Is BOTOX® the Right Choice for Me?

We pride ourselves in our ability to offer a number of different treatments that can help address the appearance of facial aging. No two patients are the same, so we make it a point to personalize our treatment plans, tailoring each one to the patient's unique concerns and lifestyle. We’ll get to know the issues that brought you through our doors, and help you pick out the treatment that will create your ideal results.

BOTOX is a highly effective way to address dynamic wrinkles in the face, which are caused by the repeated engagement of your facial muscles. As you make expressions and speak throughout each day, the use of your facial muscles causes dynamic wrinkles to form in the skin above them. Our injections of BOTOX in Brookline address these wrinkles at the source.

How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?

The lines that appear between your eyebrows actually result from the repeated engagement of the muscles that sit just beneath your skin. When the powerful muscles between the brows contract, the brows are drawn together, causing the skin to fold and furrow. As your skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows eventually develop into stubborn lines.

This injectable treatment works by relaxing the underlying muscles, which works to gradually smooth the overlying skin. The effects are very localized and, when administered by an experienced provider, don’t affect your ability to smile, laugh, or otherwise show expression. BOTOX Cosmetic is the only product of its kind that has been approved for this use.

What Is the Treatment Like?

BOTOX Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure performed at either our Brookline or Canton locations, consisting of little more than a few tiny injections. Your provider will determine exactly where to administer these injections to achieve your ideal results. No anesthesia is required, though you may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to your procedure. The entire process takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and you won’t have any real downtime or recovery period once it’s over. You may experience some redness and mild discomfort in the treatment area, but this will quickly fade, leaving you to enjoy your impressive new results.

How soon will I see my results?

You can expect to see your results within a few days of your treatment, with the appearance of your brow area potentially continuing to improve for up to a week. Your individual results will be unique to you, as no two patients are exactly the same. During your consultation, your provider will be sure to give you a clear idea of the results you can expect.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

Although you’ll notice a marked improvement in your facial appearance, a BOTOX treatment won’t leave you looking like you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes your frown lines will be simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised and make other normal expressions, without noticing those frustrating wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What is the average cost of Botox treatments and are they covered by insurance?

The cost of Botox treatments varies depending on factors like the number of areas treated and the expertise of the injector. On average, a single Botox treatment can range from $200 to $600. Insurance typically does not cover cosmetic procedures like Botox unless there is a medical necessity, such as treating chronic migraines or certain muscle-related conditions.

Are there any potential side effects or risks associated with Botox?

Although Botox is generally safe, potential side effects can include temporary bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. Rarely, some individuals may experience headache, drooping eyelids, or a frozen facial expression. It's important to discuss any concerns with a qualified healthcare professional.
