Nervous About Your First Laser? Read This First.

July 11, 2025

Laser technology is one of the most advanced and effective tools in aesthetics, but it can sound a little intimidating if you’ve never tried it. Whether you’re worried about pain, downtime, or not knowing what to expect, this guide is here to ease your nerves and help you walk into your first
laser appointment with total confidence.

What Is a Laser Treatment?

Laser treatments use focused light energy to target specific issues in your skin—pigmentation, redness, scarring, unwanted hair, or signs of aging. At Dream Spa Medical, we offer several types of laser services, including:

  • Laser Genesis (for redness, pores, and texture)
  • Laser Hair Removal (for long-term hair reduction)
  • Ultherapy (for non-surgical lifting using ultrasound technology, often grouped with laser
    services)
  • Sylfirm X (a hybrid radiofrequency microneedling device with laser-like effects for tone,
    texture, and collagen)

Each treatment is tailored to your skin type and goals—and your provider will walk you through
the best option for you.

Will It Hurt?

Most laser treatments feel like:

  • A warm or prickly sensation
  • Tiny rubber band snaps on the skin
  • Quick pulses of heat

They aren’t painful, just a little uncomfortable—like a deep exfoliation. For certain treatments, we may apply a numbing cream beforehand to make you even more comfortable.

What to Expect Before, During, and After

Before Your Appointment:

  • Avoid tanning, retinol, and harsh skincare for 3–5 days before treatment
  • Shave the area if you’re getting laser hair removal (but don’t wax or pluck)
  • Come to your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin

During the Treatment:

  • Your provider will explain what’s happening every step of the way
  • Protective goggles may be provided depending on the treatment
  • Sessions typically last 15–45 minutes depending on the area being treated

After the Appointment:

  • Some redness and warmth is normal—like a mild sunburn feeling
  • No picking, scrubbing, or exfoliating until the skin calms
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and wear SPF daily
  • You may see results gradually improve over the next few weeks as collagen builds or hair
    falls out

What Are the Results Like?

Laser treatments are progressive—you’ll see better and longer-lasting results with consistency.

Depending on the treatment and your goals, you may need a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart.

For example:

  • Laser Genesis: a “glow-up” favorite for tone, texture, and radiance
  • Laser Hair Removal: significant reduction in growth after 4–6 sessions
  • Sylfirm X: smoother texture and reduced redness or pigmentation within weeks
