5 Post-Treatment Skincare Mistakes to Avoid

5 Post-Treatment Skincare Mistakes to Avoid

May 8, 2025

You just invested in your skin, now let’s make sure you protect those results.
At Dream Spa Medical, we often see amazing treatments underperform because of avoidable skincare mistakes made afterward.

Here’s what to avoid after your next facial, microneedling session, peel, or laser:

  1. Skipping SPF

Sun protection is non-negotiable after any treatment. Your skin is more sensitive, and UV exposure can cause hyperpigmentation or slow down healing.

Tip: Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply every 2–3 hours.

  1. Using Active Ingredients Too Soon

Put down the retinol and exfoliating acids for at least 5–7 days (or longer, depending on your treatment).
Your skin needs time to heal before diving back into your actives.

  1. Touching or Picking Your Skin

It might feel satisfying, but picking at flaking skin or scabs can lead to scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation.

  1. Over-Cleansing or Using Harsh Products

Stick to a gentle, hydrating cleanser and avoid toners, scrubs, or anything labeled “deep-cleaning” for at least 3–5 days post-treatment.

  1. Skipping Follow-Up or Maintenance Care

Post-treatment is the perfect time to adjust your skincare for optimal results. Don’t ghost your provider, follow-up matters.
