What to Know Before Your First Visit

What to Know Before Your First Visit

July 23, 2025

Injectables are some of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the world. They’re quick, minimally invasive, and offer noticeable (but natural-looking) results. But if it’s your first time, it’s totally normal to have questions.

Here’s your guide to everything you should know before your first visit—from what injectables actually are, to what to expect, and how to make sure you’re in the best hands.

What Are Injectables?

“Injectables” is a broad term used for treatments that are injected into the skin to smooth lines, restore volume, or enhance certain features. The two main categories are:

1. Neuromodulators (like Botox, Dysport)

These work by relaxing targeted muscles to smooth out dynamic wrinkles—like forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines between the brows.

2. Dermal Fillers (like Juvederm, Restylane)

Fillers add volume to areas like the cheeks, lips, jawline, and under-eyes. They’re made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body.

✅ Both are non-surgical, quick, and customizable.

Choose a Qualified Injector

Before anything else, make sure you’re seeing a licensed and experienced medical provider. At Dream Spa Medical, all of our injectors are trained nurses or medical professionals with advanced certification in aesthetic medicine.

Why this matters:

  • Proper dosing = natural results

  • Proper placement = symmetry and safety

  • Medical training = confidence in case of rare complications

What Happens During the Consultation?

Your first visit always starts with a consultation. Here’s what your provider will go over:

  • Your goals and concerns (e.g. “I want a more refreshed look” or “I’m bothered by my frown lines”)

  • Your medical history, allergies, and previous treatments

  • The best injectable option(s) for your goals

  • Pricing, dosage, and expected outcomes

There’s zero pressure to move forward right away—your provider will create a personalized plan and give you the time and info you need to make a decision.

What Does It Feel Like?

Injectables are quick and relatively comfortable. Most people say it feels like:

  • A small pinch (Botox)

  • Slight pressure or stinging (filler)

We use ultra-fine needles and offer numbing agents to keep you comfortable. The entire process usually takes 15–30 minutes.

What About Downtime?

One of the best things about injectables is how easy they are to fit into your schedule. Most clients walk out and resume their day. That said, here’s what to keep in mind:

Botox:

  • Little to no downtime

  • Results appear within 3–5 days, full effect by 10–14 days

  • Avoid laying down or exercising for a few hours post-treatment

Filler:

  • Minor swelling or bruising is normal (especially lips!)

  • Full results are immediate but settle over the next 7–10 days

  • Avoid pressure on the area, intense workouts, or alcohol for 24 hours

Common Myths

“I’ll look frozen.”
Not with the right injector. Our goal is to keep you looking like you—just more refreshed.

“Fillers are permanent.”
Most dermal fillers are temporary and dissolve naturally over 6–18 months.

“It’s only for people over 40.”
Preventative Botox and subtle lip or cheek enhancements are common among patients in their 20s and 30s.
