Sculptra is one of the most popular injectable dermal fillers on the market today. It is known for its ability to reduce existing signs of aging by stimulating collagen production in the deep layers of the skin and preventing new wrinkles and lines from forming.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable form of Poly-L-lactic acid that works as a collagen stimulant. These injectables are administered deep into the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and acne scars. It is most often used to restore volume to problem areas in the face (such as the cheeks and temples) and smooth out mild to severe facial wrinkles, such as smile lines, marionette lines (lines that span from the mouth corners down to the jawline), nasolabial folds (lines that run from the nose to the mouth corners), and chin wrinkles. It is one of the most sought-after injectable treatments available today.

What are the benefits of Sculptra?

A safe, proven treatment that is FDA-approved
    Will not trigger allergic reactions
    A non-surgical and non-invasive procedure
There is little-to-no downtime or discomfort following the procedure
Both superficial and deep lines can be addressed
Signs of aging, such as marionette lines, laugh lines, chin folds, and nasolabial folds can all be treated
Results can last as long as two years
New collagen production is stimulated upon injection

Who is a good candidate for Sculptra?

Good candidates for Sculptra are patients who:

    • Seek to restore fullness to areas of the face that have seen volume loss (whether from the natural aging process or fluctuations in weight)
    • Are only looking for a semi-permanent treatment
    • Want to give their face a more youthful aesthetic
    • Are between 25 and 75 years of age

Sculptra may not be a good option for patients who:

    • Expect instantaneous results
    • Suffer from autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and vasculitis.
    • Are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
    • Are under 18 years of age
    • Have skin conditions, such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis
    • Have a proclivity to develop keloid scars. This treatment encourages collagen production at a deep level, meaning that overproduction of collagen could occur.
    • Take blood thinners regularly.

    What is the procedure like?

Prior to undergoing the procedure, patients have a private consultation with the practitioner. During this meeting, all questions and issues may be expressed to ensure that the patient has a good understanding of what the procedure entails. At this time, the treatment sites will also be determined, allowing for a smooth and well-planned-out procedure.

The filler is administered into the targeted area by injections. The formula is injected into the skin at various levels of depth to ensure even distribution. Once it has all been injected, the practitioner will gently massage the area to help it reach all of its desired points. After all the injections have been made, patients are discharged and able to get back to their daily routines.

    Are there any risks involved?

While Sculptra is a highly safe product that allows patients to forgo the potential complications of the surgery, it does come with some potential side effects:

    • Irritation around the injection site
    • Discoloration of the skin
    • Allergic reactions
    • Facial cysts and nodules
